Allergy Testing in Arizona
Allergy Testing is a laboratory test you can request directly. This blood test helps identify potential environmental or food allergies by measuring your body's immune response.
What this test is
Allergy testing measures the level of specific antibodies, called immunoglobulin E (IgE), in your blood. Elevated levels of IgE antibodies can indicate an allergic reaction to certain substances.
What it measures
- Immunoglobulin E (IgE) — reflects the body's allergic response
What the test involves
A small sample of blood is collected from a vein in your arm, typically during a standard blood draw. The sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.
Why it is often ordered
Clinicians often order this test to help pinpoint the cause of allergy symptoms such as hives, itching, or respiratory issues. It can assist in diagnosing allergies to common triggers like pollen, dust mites, or certain foods.
Preparation
Follow any specific instructions provided by the laboratory where you will have your blood drawn. General guidelines usually do not require special preparation.
How results are reported
Results are typically available within a few business days and will be sent to the ordering clinician. Reference ranges, which indicate what is considered normal, vary between laboratories.
