Hepatitis tests are laboratory analyses used to detect the presence of viruses that cause inflammation of the liver, known as hepatitis. They can identify different types of hepatitis, such as Hepatitis A, B, and C, and help distinguish between acute (recent) and chronic (long-term) infections.

What it measures

Hepatitis A Antibody (IgM) — indicates a recent Hepatitis A infection
Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) — indicates an active Hepatitis B infection
Hepatitis B Core Antibody (Total) — indicates past or current Hepatitis B infection
Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (Anti-HBs) — indicates immunity to Hepatitis B
Hepatitis C Antibody (Anti-HCV) — indicates past or current Hepatitis C infection

What the test involves

A sample is collected, typically through a standard blood draw from a vein in your arm. The collected sample is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.
