Testosterone Testing in Utah
Testosterone Testing is a laboratory test you can request directly. Testosterone testing measures the amount of this key hormone in your body. It can help evaluate hormone balance and related health concerns.
What this test is
This test measures the level of testosterone, a hormone primarily produced in the testes of males and in smaller amounts in the ovaries of females and adrenal glands. Testosterone plays a vital role in the development and maintenance of male reproductive tissues and secondary sexual characteristics.
What it measures
- Total Testosterone — reflects the total amount of testosterone in the blood
- Free Testosterone — reflects the amount of testosterone not bound to proteins and available for use by the body
- Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) — reflects a protein that binds to testosterone
What the test involves
A sample is typically collected through a standard blood draw from a vein in your arm. The blood is then sent to a laboratory for analysis.
Why it is often ordered
Clinicians may order this test to investigate symptoms related to low or high testosterone levels. It can be part of an evaluation for various health conditions.
Preparation
